General Motors volunteers participated in teamGM Cares Week, an annual week-long event that took place the week of September 12th through September 16th. Uniting GM employees with community residents, the event granted GM employees the opportunity to make a difference in Southwest Detroit. Fiesta del Rio Detroit

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy partnered with The Ideal Group to host the inaugural Fiesta del Rio Detroit on Saturday, August 27. The  one-day event at West Riverfront Park showcased the culture and vitality of Southwest Detroit through live music, dance, food, artisans, vendors and a low-rider car show.

On Saturday, July 23, 2016, Scarcyny Park & Garden hosted their very first Mad Hatter Tea Party. The day started with many fun activities. Opening Day

Spring has officially begun! On Saturday, May 21st, Cadillac Urban Gardens and Scarcyny Park celebrated their Grand Opening Day. Guests learned about the summer series hosted at the gardens including: Get Up and Get Moving, Volunteer Days, Art in the Park, and Music in the Park. Throughout the festivities, guests also enjoyed tacos, arts and crafts, games, and music provided DJ Joe G.  This was CUGM & Scarcyny Park’s fourth opening day and had the highest attendance! More…

Merritt Street Clean-Up

On Saturday morning, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor students, Ideal Group employees and the Southwest Detroit community came together for Merritt Street’s Annual Clean-Up. Donut Villa donated donuts and coffee for all the volunteers. Despite the chilly weather, volunteers continued on with their tasks. Volunteers at Scarcyny Park cleared out dead plants, pulled weeds, and picked up trash. Down the street at Cadillac Urban Gardens, helpers pulled weeds from the bins, turned beds, and organized the shed. More…

On February 23, 2016, The Robotics Engineering Center of Detroit (REC’D) located inside of Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation (DHDC) in Detroit held its first Robotics Presentation and Sponsor Recognition. Youth teams from Cesar Chavez High School, Denby High School, Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Mercy Education Project, DHDC, and Consortium College Preparatory High School, built their robots at the REC’D Center.   More…

Following Thanksgiving, Ideal has much to be thankful for – especially our supportive community. This Christmas, the gift of giving has been joyfully contagious here with Ideal Group. We adopted four families through LA SED as our own this year in an effort to spread Christmas cheer to those in need of a little help from Santa’s elves. Holy Redeemer First Lego League

The Holy Redeemer Grade School’s First Lego League (FLL), Redeemer Bots, competed at Allen Park Middle School on Saturday November 21st. This was Redeemer Bot’s first year competing. The First Lego League is part of Michigan’s FIRST family of programs positioned as an upper elementary program (Grade 4 through end of elementary school). It is a partnership between the LEGO Group and FIRST committed to creating robotic competition programs that will excite and inspire children to excel in math and science. The students and adult mentors worked very hard ranking 5th out of 30 FLL teams. Thank you Steve Wilson, Chief Mentoring Coach, assisted by DTE Energy mentors, staff and parents for their dedication and coaching. Steve closed his shop for two weeks during FLL time.
