Manufacturing Day at WTO!

31 Oct , 2017

Last Friday, Warren Transmission Operations hosted 90 students from Fitzgerald High School in Warren (30) and Pontiac Middle School (60) to participate in Manufacturing Day. This event is a national campaign designed to increase awareness on the importance of manufacturing in our economy.

Frank Rowser, UAW Local 909 Chairman, welcomed students to WTO. “Today is a great opportunity to not only expose you to the world of manufacturing, but to meet the great people behind our success.”

It is an opportunity to reduce the skilled labor shortage by connecting with the next generation of employees and exposes students to multiple careers in the auto industry. Expressing an interest in Pre-Engineering or Auto Tech, participating students toured plant operations, engaged in hands-on activities, and had the opportunity to interact with WTO team members.

Tammy Golden, Plant Manager at Warren Transmission Operations, encouraged students to pursue their goals. “Opportunities such as Manufacturing Day provide students with real-world perspectives on manufacturing and the automotive industry. I encourage you to follow your interest in this exciting world of manufacturing.”

Visiting students also had the chance to learn about WTO’s community outreach. With the support of the GM Foundation, WTO presented $100,000 in community grants to 10 Warren-area nonprofit organizations. They benefit STEM education, community centers and cultural organizations, just to name a few.

Thank you to all involved in helping to showcase Warren Transmission Operations to visiting students and guests!
